Blueberries

Blueberries are native to North America and are prized for being a sweet fruit, a good source of Vitamin C and Iron.  They are generally dark blue in color and round.

Growing Area
They are grown all over the United States, they can be from Maine, New Jersey, North Carolina and Michigan.  They are also grown in Mexico and Chile.

Handling and Storage
Blueberries should be firm and plump with uniform size and color.  The coloring of fresh berries should be deep purple to nearly black with a silver to white frost on the skin.  They should be dry and free of leaves.  Avoid overripe or those with a dull appearance.  Do not wash Blueberries until right before you intend to use them.  They will keep in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.  Unwashed Blueberries can be frozen in a single layer.
