Coconuts are found throughout the Tropic and Sub-tropic areas. They are known for their great versatility as seen in the many domestic, commercial, and industrial uses of its different parts. Coconuts contain a large quantity of water and may be harvested for drinking. Young coconuts are green. Mature coconuts are covered in brown “hair”. A typical Coconut weighs approximately 3.2 pounds. The white flesh of the fruit is known as the meat. The center contains a watery liquid which is often sipped straight from the coconut.

Florida, California, New Zealand, Philippines, the Caribbean, and in Hawaii.
Handling and Storage
Grated fresh coconut should be stored in the refrigerator, tightly covered, for up to a week and in the freezer for up to six months. Whole coconuts can be stored at room temperature for up to six months.
